Moon Over Christmas Hill, Watercolor Original 9x12
Moon over Christmas Hill is a nod to my mother who was a brilliant painter and avid lover of nature and the seasons. My mother lived in a home that was nearly 200 years old on the St. Mary's River in Maryland. Her farm was named Christmas Hill. There was something magical about her home when it was snowing. Once our area was hit by a huge ice storm. Our homes were in a remote area called Drayden, MD. This painting is a memory of a snow storm many years ago where I went to check on my mother to make sure that she was fairing the storm well. I expected to find her home dark and barely noticeable under the night sky.....but instead I found a winter wonderland filled with light illuminated by the full moon, the ice crystals in the air and the soft candles which glowed in the front windows. What a beautiful memory and surprise.
